Gov. Josh Green has signed two bills related to Hawaiʻi’s housing issues — a property insurance bill to stabilize prices and coverage, and a bill that establishes more resources for houseless youth.

Strong winds persist in driest areas of Big Island, continuing elevated wildfire danger

National Weather Service extended a wind advisory in effect for North Kohala and portions of South Kohala, North Kona, Hāmākua, Kaʻū and Puna, adding the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, as ridge of high pressure to north of state will keep same locations parched and primed for fires under the right conditions, despite National Weather Service not expected to issue any watches or warnings.

The County of Maui Committee on the Status of Women will hold community roundtables on Friday, July 11, 2025, to gather public input on issues affecting women’s health in the county.

Council focuses on zoning issues throughout this month

The Maui County Council will meet July 8 at 9 a.m. to consider zoning legislation on agricultural tourism, parking requirements for electric vehicles, food trucks in the agricultural district, the size of accessory dwellings and the definition of various land-use terms.

MISC: ʻŌhiʻa seeds from resilient trees may hold the key to stopping Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death

Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death (ROD) was detected in three landscaped ʻōhiʻa trees in Central Maui in February. ROD is a fungal disease that can kill a healthy ʻōhiʻa tree. First identified in Puna in 2014, the disease has since devastated thousands of acres of forest on Hawaiʻi Island, wiping out over a million trees.

2025 Fourth of July Makawao Stampede results

Eleven year old Luana Fitch won the Junior Barrel competition at the Makawao Stampede rodeo, held over the weekend at the Oskie Rice Event Center. Her combined times (18.85 sec and 18.83 sec) in the junior event would have beat the open women's championship times for the same category. Maui Wind Advisory until 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the parts of Maui, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, and the Big Island of Hawaiʻi through 6 o'clock tonight.

Gov. Josh Green has signed pivotal legislation to tackle Hawaii's housing crisis, with Senate Bill 1044 (Act 296) to address rising property insurance premiums and House Bill 613 (Act 297) to support homeless youth through the permanent Safe Places for Youth program.
