The motorcyclist is identified as Hapaki Teixeira, who was transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead Aug. 11 at 10:08 p.m.

Hawaiʻi DOH reports 12th travel-related dengue virus case of 2025

The Hawaiʻi Department of Health has confirmed a new travel-related case of dengue virus on Oʻahu, bringing the total number of dengue cases to 12 in the state in 2025 (one on Maui, 11 on Oʻahu). The affected individual in this current case was exposed to the virus while traveling in a region where dengue is common and is not connected to prior cases.
